So basically my Livejournal account has been 99% abandoned for approximately a jillion years (or, you know, five or so). If you want to know what's going on with me, head on over to my Tumblr at liarashadowsong.tumblr.com . I also have an account on AO3. Or feel free to send me a message via any format you want to use, which includes sending an email to liarashadowsong (at) gmail (dot) com if that is your preference.

Writer's Block: Talk the Talk?

With so many features available on mobile phones, talking is not always everyone’s first priority. What do you use your phone for the most? What features couldn’t you live without?

Mostly, I use my cell phone as a phone.  I spent the last four years as a a college undergrad (I graduated recently, and will be starting grad school in the fall), and had a different landline number each year, not that I was particularly good at using the university's phone set-up (aside from the one in the main office, which was set up differently, and I managed that only because I had to, since I worked there, and even then I had a reference sheet).  My cell phone is the one constant phone number I can be reached at.  Admittedly, I do text occasionally now that my family's plan has been modified to give us all unlimited texting, but I still don't use that feature terribly much.  I have never gone on the internet on my phone, although one of my friends regularly checks email on hers.  Another feature I could definitely live without is the one where you put a photo into a text; I've personally only used it once, and that was to give a visual aid to a beloved but coffee-addicted friend when I let her know that the coffee left in her coffee-maker on our floor's dorm kitchenette had gone moldy (I believe the words I used to describe it were "muddy petri dish", LOL).
Title: With family by your side
Author: Liara Shadowsong
Rating: PG/PG13
Word count: 1956, so far
Disclaimer:  This is a fanfiction taking place in an alternate DC universe.  The characters do not belong to me.
In a perfect universe, Bruce Wayne never became an orphan and instead grew up surrounded by his loving family; Jor-El built a rocket big enough to not only send his son to safety as Krypton was destroyed but his wife and himself as well. With no Batman or Superman to speak of, how would these two ever meet?

I just made a deviantArt account today!  liara-shadowsong.deviantart.com  <-- clickie the link

I had to make a new icon for it, because the one I like to use here was too big of a file size.  And I still need to digitize some of my hand-drawn art to submit.  But still, isn't is awesome?  ^_^  This is what happens when I get out of school for the summer; I get creative because I actually have free time, even if I do have to unpack a lot.

Writer's Block: Philanthropy

Do you volunteer your time or donate money to any charitable organizations? Which ones, and why?
I'm a college student, so I don't tend to have enough extra money to donate.  Now, volunteering my time, on the other hand, I definitely do.  I've been a volunteer at a local hospital for the last two years.  I'm not going to go into excessive detail, but I help with an office within the hospital that makes the patients' days a little brighter.  I'm also a volunteer usher at church, and have been for the last three years.  I also give time to some smaller projects throughout the year.

Scans_Daily Suspended

I don't know if anyone will ever see this entry, but I'm making it anyways.  The community scans_daily  has been suspended for copyright violation.  There is further information, including a link to a new, scan-less community for former members, at schmevil.livejournal.com/161736.html.  Now, I don't know about other members of the community, but I used it in large part to help me find series that would be worth buying.  And, of course, there was the wonderful company.  But, in all seriousness, I would have never heard of the series Marvel Adventures: The Avengers if not for Scans_Daily.  Now, I haven't had a chance to go and buy it yet, seeing as how I basically have the choice of a half hour walk to the comic store that may or may not have what I'm looking for (college student, no car) or special ordering into the nearest bookstore (and I've tried that in the past, only to have the bookstore be unable to find what I'm looking for, so clearly I need to bring in the ISBN number for something so little known), but I have every intention of buying a copy of every compiled volume of that series as I have enough spending money to spare for it.  Hopefully, something can be done about this.  If not, there's always the scan-less discussion community I mentioned above.

The linguistics text of a friend of mine states that "...shplernk is not a possible word in English." (Language Myths page 77)

However, new words enter the English language, and languages all over the world, all the time.  For example, at one time, 'internet' was not a word.  Why not 'shplernk'?

And so, the challenge.  "Try to use this so-called not-a-word in day-to-day life," she asked some other friends and I.  Personally, I consider it to be a generic 'technical-term' word (as in "Is that the technical term?" asked sarcastically), synonymous with 'stuff' or 'thingamabob'.

What do you think; does 'shplernk' stand a chance of becoming a real word someday?

And with that academic inquiry made, I bid you good night.  I have shplernk to do in the morning.

Writer's Block: So Long, Farewell

It's the last day in office for George Bush. There's been a lot of talk in the media lately about Bush's legacy. What do you think he will be most remembered for?
The so-called "war on terror".  It was never an officially declared war on any front, to the best of my knowledge, by the way.  But that mess will be remembered for a very long time, I think, and with Bush's name attached to it.  Even should things end up improving significantly as a result for the people of Iraq and other invaded nations in the long run, people will invariably remember the poorly-executed means to the end.

Also, his made-up words and less-than spectacular grammar.  Frankly, while he seems like a nice enough guy and all, I cannot for the life of me figure out how the American people could have possibly thought he'd be a good President for two terms in a row.  I'm sure he meant well, but...

Comics may be forthcoming.

Hello, all!  At the moment, I'm attempting to work on the next chapter of "Fox's Wings", an in-progress Naruto fanfiction that I am currently posting to FanFiction.net (there is a link to my author page there in the left column of my journal, if you want to read, and please note that my username there is Kawaii Chibi Shun, not LiaraShadowsong, unless I've changed it between making this post and you reading it).  Or rather, I'm working on the fanfiction in what free time I can scrounge up in between my college classes and making a half-hearted attempt at having a social life (which involves wandering off down-the-hall/upstairs to my friends' dorm rooms to hang out far more often than actually going out, actually).  Eventually, there will be another chapter.

Anyways... I've written exactly nothing for the DCAU epic fanfiction I mentioned last time.  And I doubt that entry got much/any traffic anyways, but, hey, it's archived for when someone wanders in here as opposed to just seeing my posts on Scans Daily and the like.  *cough*  Back to what I was saying... I haven't actually written anything yet, but I'm trying my hand at a couple of teeny mini-comics, my version of a drawn equivalent of drabble writing.  If they turn out halfway decent, I'll upload them to Photobucket and post them in an entry here under a fake cut.  ...And then I need to find an appropriate community to post links to the relevant entries in my journal in so that someone besides me can actually appreciate my attempts at genius.  Yep.  There may be comics sometime soon.  No real chronological order or continuity besides being in the AU-verse I mentioned last time, but hopefully there will be people who like them.

Also, it is very cold here.  Like very, very.  Thank goodness my heater works well.  I think I'll be avoiding the stairwells in favor of the elevator for the time being, though, as the heat really doesn't work properly there.  Blarg.

Until next time!  Ta-ta!
